In the last 10 years, we have entered the era of digital pathology, in which pathological images (Whole slide image; WSI) digitized using a virtual slide scanner are observed on a monitor. In addition, digital pathology is gaining traction worldwide as the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the virtual slide scanner as a medical device in 2018.
The website of the Digital Pathology Association (DPA), an academic group that is leading the way, has introduced the English version of the Neuropathology Database (Essential Brain Anatomy & Neuropathology) as an excellent Whole Slide Image Repository. Moreover, our website has been introduced in the International Academy of Pathology (IAP) and in the International Society of Neuropathology as educational resources of neuropathology.
The impact of these announcements is large, and it is expected that e-learning content of neuropathology will be further publicized and its use will be promoted.
