Management Philosophy (Mission Statement)

The mission of the Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Medical Science is to improve the welfare and medical care of Tokyo residents. To fulfill this goal, we pursue medical research into the etiology, prevention, and treatment of major diseases, including cancers, infectious diseases, and mental disorders. We also pursue basic biological research in order to understand the fundamental principles involved in life and living organisms. We disseminate our research findings to the worldwide scientific community as well as to the people of Tokyo.

Code of Conduct

The Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Medical Science is an incorporated public-interest foundation supported by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. As such, we act in accordance with the following guidelines:

  • Research: We are dedicated to improving the medical care and welfare of present and future Tokyo residents through continuing research.
  • Societal Needs and Technological Advancements: New diseases and health concerns continually arise in a high-density urban environment. We respond to these needs through cutting-edge medical research and the development of novel technologies to address social and societal health concerns.
  • Ethical Standards: We maintain the highest ethical standards and promote fair, evidence-based, scientific research.
  • Research Autonomy and Social Accountability: We promote independent, autonomous research while maintaining our responsibility to communicate, explain, and justify our research studies to society and Tokyo residents.
  • Compliance and Professional Responsibility: We comply with all laws and institutional regulations and pursue our research honorably, ethically, and responsibly.
