Hisao Masai

The Research Center for Genome & Medical Sciences was established in 2020 with the goal of mining unexplored information carried in the human genome. Our aim is to use this information to identify mutations that cause various diseases, and develop novel diagnoses and therapies. We now enjoy a wealth of genome information from many thousands of biological species, and even from individual human beings. However, the functions of the non-coding segments that constitute almost 99% of the entire human genome are still largely unknown. We will use advanced technologies in genome analyses to identify novel information that regulates transcription and other chromosome events in the human genome. In collaboration with hospitals, we will apply the technologies and the outcome to understand molecular mechanisms of diseases and to rapidly diagnose and develop novel treatments for genetic diseases.
